This Simulator was inspired by Neurons in Action (John W. Moore and Ann E. Stewart) and was developed at the University of Alberta in conjunction with Atmist, to help students understand basic properties of excitable membranes. Our goal in particular was to allow students to see ion flow across an excitable membrane. The simulator is based on the equations developed by Alan Hodgkin and Andrew Huxley in the 1940s and 50s following their seminal research on the excitability properties of the squid giant axon.
Access to the NEUROMEMBRANE simulator for University of Alberta students requires an active CCID along with a passcode provided by your instructor. Guests have full access via a separate login button.
NEUROMEMBRANE is a work in progress with more updates to come.
